This is Tamil Siddha medicine and its usage in jaundice treatment. The high levels of Bilirubin in the blood can lead to dangerous disease like jaundice. The main symptoms of jaundice are yellow shade of eyes and skin. There are three types of jaundice; they are pre-hepatic jaundice, hepatic jaundice and post-hepatic jaundice.   • The general symptoms which can be seen in the disease are yellow shade in eyes and skin, the color of urination will change into dark yellow. Stomach pain will be there due to liver infection. Decreased hunger, vomiting, constipation are some of the common signs of jaundice. Some jaundice people can also get mild fever in the condition.
  • Siddha medicinal therapy is based on various herbs and other natural ingredients. According to siddha therapy Kizhanelli is one of the best remedies for jaundice. The leaves of this herb are very small and round in shape. This plant is easy to find and generally seen near river banks and lakes. This herb is called as stonebreaker also.
  • Phyllanthus Niruri is the botanical name of the medicinal herb. In siddha medicinal therapy medicine for jaundice is prepared with the ingredients like kizhanelli, cardamom and piper cubeba. Whole kizhanelli plant is used to make this medicinal decoction along with the other ingredients and water. This amazing decoction should be taken three times a day. In siddha therapy paste is also made by grinding all the ingredients including kizhanelli herb, cardamom pods and piper cubeba seeds. This paste can be mixed and consumed with butter milk or milk twice a day. This remedy is referred as ‘ Kizhanelli Kalkam’ in siddha therapy.
  • Siddha therapy suggests one more herb to treat jaundice. This medicinal herb known as Karisilankanni, is loaded with anti-hepatotoxic activity. The leaves of this plant are ground into paste along with pepper. This paste is mixed with buttermilk and consumed morning and evening for treatment of jaundice.
  • While treating jaundice, the decoctions or pastes are made fresh every time. These therapies are completely without side effects and can be given to any patient. Some other Siddha medicines which are easily available in the market are Silajit Parpam, Sangu Parpam, Annabedhi Chenduram, Mandoora Chenduram etc.
  • Siddha therapy suggests massage or keezhanelli oil or karisaalai oil on the head daily 10 minutes before going to bath. Apart from this oil prepared with neem seeds, gooseberries, kadukkai, turmeric and pepper is also equally beneficial.
  • These two medicinal herbs named Karisalankanni and Kizhanelli are obtainable in the southern part of India. These herbs are not only beneficial in treating jaundice but also it givens strength to Liver in normal condition also.
